Hollywood can be a tough playground, and Sydney Sweeney knows it better than most. At just 28, the Emmy and SAG Award-nominated actress has seen the highs, the lows, and all the “no’s” that come with pursuing a career in showbiz. Speaking at the New York City premiere of her upcoming psychological thriller ‘The Housemaid’, Sweeney offered some honest advice for anyone dreaming of making it in the entertainment world: passion is everything.

“Honestly, do it as long as you love it,” she told reporters, according to People. Sweeney emphasized that the road to success in Hollywood isn’t easy. “You gotta love it a lot, because it’s really hard, and you’re going to be told ‘no’ more than you’re going to be told ‘yes.’”

Sweeney’s own journey began back in 2009, with small roles in hit shows like ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Pretty Little Liars’. But it was in the late 2010s that she really made her mark. Roles in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘Sharp Objects’, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’ showcased her versatility. Her portrayal of Cassie Howard in HBO’s ‘Euphoria’ brought her widespread acclaim.

In recent years, Sweeney hasn’t slowed down. She’s starred in ‘The White Lotus’, ‘Immaculate’, ‘Anyone But You’, ‘Madame Web’, and ‘Christy’. On top of acting, she’s been stepping into producing, including for her latest film, ‘The Housemaid’.

The new movie, adapted from Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, sees Sweeney play a young woman hired as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Reflecting on her early experiences, Sweeney said she always loved auditions because they let her explore new characters. “I loved auditioning, because I was getting to try out all these different characters,” she said.

‘The Housemaid’ is going to hit theaters on December 19.
